Sailors Spot Weird Object In Ocean, Start Scrambling When They See Tiny Puppy’s Face.

You never know what you’ll see while on the water – a whale breaching, a seal trying to befriend you, or a lost Labrador retriever puppy.

Okay, so that the last one is a bit of a stretch, but for the crew on a particular boat in Italy, that’s exactly what they encountered while out one afternoon. Mario Di Meglio had just picked up his new, three-month-old lab and they were on their way home when the puppy, Noodle, fell off the ferry. His frantic owner immediately alerted the crew, but they figured the dog had already drowned and refused to stop!

Fortunately for both of them, members of the RYCC Savoia sailing club were out in the Gulf of Naples that day. Massimiliano Cappa and his crew just happened to see the exhausted puppy doing his best to stay afloat. Poor Noodle had been struggling to keep his head above water for approximately half an hour and was quickly losing strength.

Massimiliano and his crew began calling and whistling to the waterlogged pup, encouraging him to swim closer to the vessel so they could scoop him up. When they pulled him aboard, “his legs [were] almost paralyzed by the cold. He trembled and wept.â€

Another member of the crew, Alessandra Cuocolo, held the puppy tightly and worked to get some warmth back into his shivering body as they headed back to shore.

Young Noodle took the opportunity during the boat ride to reflect on his experience and contemplate his future…

Soon after, he was reunited with his owner, who explained that he’d had Noodle on a leash, but the exuberant fuzzball managed to wriggle his way out and toppled overboard.

“I am very happy, I could embrace him again,” Mario said. It truly is miraculous that this group of sailors was in the right place at the right time – and thank goodness that Noodle was such a good swimmer!
