When Sugar Land, Texas, native Shelley Holland and her now-husband got engaged, they were excited to plan their beautiful wedding day.
The couple set the date for September 2, 2017. Then Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and their dream wedding day was ruined. “Our wedding cake, the venue, the chapel the catering and so many other small details,” were lost to the storm, Shelley wrote on Facebook. Miraculously, though, that didn’t stop the couple from saying their I do’s in a very special way.
With thousands of Texans displaced during Hurricane Harvey, Shelley and her husband weren’t alone.

They were due to be married at the Church on the Rock Katy, but when pastor Jorge Cardenas went to check on the church before the big day, he found it in shambles.

Not only that, though, Jorge and his wife lost more than just their church. Their house was destroyed, too.

But they weren’t going to let that stop them from making Shelley’s dream wedding happen. Jorge found a new church for the couple to get married in and even went to check on them on their wedding day. With so much to worry about, it’s truly beautiful that the pastor took time to make Shelley’s nuptials a possibility.
Shelley posted about the incredible act of kindness on Facebook:
She wrote:
My husband and I completely lost every plan we made over the last 6 months surrounding our upcoming wedding on September 2nd due to Hurricane Harvey. This included our wedding cake, the venue, the chapel the catering and so many other small details. This was such a heart break not only for me as a bride, but more importantly for the devastation it left on the pastor of the church we choose to have our wedding at.
His home was completely destroyed, his church was flooded with several feet of water. And yet Pastor Jorge Cardeas and the wedding coordinator Evelin at Church on the Rock Katy Texas, found us a new Chapel so that we could continue with our wedding ceremony. They were a tremendous blessing and even came to check on us on the day of the wedding. WOW!
