“Going the military route was always in the back of my mind, but I never really weighed it as a serious option until after my third year of college. By then, I was at my third university, joined a sorority, and seriously needed help paying for school.
My family supported my decision to enlist, but others thought I was crazy, seeing as I was a sorority girl. They told me that I would stand out because of my sorority mannerisms or that I was too “girly”.
Enlisting has actually turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made; I even graduated as an honor graduate from AIT. The best part was: I had 100% support from my sorority sisters back at home. So yes, I am a sorority girl, but I’m also a soldier. I don’t want younger girls growing up thinking that they can’t serve the country they love because society thinks they’re too “girly”.
