Ever since that day, Mary and Riley’s family have become incredibly close. Most recently, Riley even had the chance to rescue Mary during a tornado. The warning sirens were already sounding off, but Riley didn’t care. She was determined to bring her neighbor over so she could stay with them in their basement. Their security camera captured the moment Riley and her son got Mary to their front door. Check it out in the video below.

“I know that means the world to her family knowing someone has her back,” someone points out in the comments. Another commentor summarizes how so many of us feel: “I needed this reminder that there’s still some faith left in humanity.”

As great of an impact that Riley and her family have had on Mary, the opposite is just as true. In another post, Riley says that the bond she and the 93-year-old woman have formed is unlike any other. In the past five years, they have: Watched the solar eclipse, celebrated birthdays, visited Mary’s family back in Michigan, and so much more.

“I might be covered in tattoos and have fun color hair sometimes, but she never judges — just tells me how pretty it looks,” Riley writes. “We may be 56 years apart and not blood related, but she sure feels like family. We traveled across the country together this year and plan to do it again next year.”
