Natasha Richardson died in a tragic skiing accident in 2009 at age 45. She left behind her husband, Liam Neeson, and their sons, Micheál and Daniel. Natasha, the daughter of famed actress Vanessa Redgrave, also had a sister, Joely Richardson. Both Vanessa and Joely miss Natasha dearly and paid tribute to the late actress on Instagram on May 11, what would have been her 62nd birthday. Joely shared photos and a sweet caption, which was dictated by Vanessa.

“Today would have been my sister Tasha’s birthday. I asked my Ma if she’d like to say anything. This is what she dictated to me. ‘We were in Greece. We sat drinking our coffees in Constitution Square. Tony ( my late father) said if the baby was a boy we should call him Tom. I said if she was a girl I would like her to be called Natasha after Tolstoy’s ‘War and Peace’. Our Natasha, as yes she was a girl, came swimming out of my womb ready for anything,'” she wrote.
Natasha Richardson’s Family Misses Her Terribly
Vanessa Redgrave continued her tribute to Natasha Richardson, “I can’t believe that she isn’t swimming somewhere now , in one of the pools or seas we explored. I will never be reconciled to her dying in the snow, and I’m sure that every mother who has lost a child will have that pain always,'” she told Joely.
Fans shared in the family’s grief over Natasha Richardson’s untimely death.
“I haven’t the right thing words but we all remember your beautiful sister. Thank you for allowing us glimpses into your private life. After your posts, I am left more reflective and appreciative of life. Thank you,” one wrote.
This fan put it beautifully, “I usually like to comment on your posts but I think today your lovely photos and your mother say it all. Best wishes to you both, special ladies,” they wrote.
