Tiny Rooster Tries Oranges For The First Time & He Needs A Minute To Process This New World

Image shows a rooster thinking about his first taste of orange.

Food is integral to sustaining all life. We must eat, but it doesn’t mean we will like everything classified as “food.” We tend to introduce one or two new foods at a time with human children. Some kids willingly try new food, while others fight any change. It turns out that roosters might be like picky children, not wanting to try new foods. Watch as this tiny rooster tries an orange for the first time.

After one hesitant taste, the rooster seems to ponder his existence. He cocks head like an internet meme and you almost hear him say, “Hmmm… maybe?” The owner boops the rooster’s beak to coax it into a second taste. The rooster is still hesitating, unsure about this weird-looking thing. A second boop, a little harder this time, gets the rooster’s attention.

The rooster finally leans down and begins eating voraciously, tearing at the tender meat of the orange. In seconds, this tame little rooster has transformed into the velociraptor from which he is descended. Devyn Boehler keeps her pet rooster, Spy Drone, in the house, saying he is terrified of the outside. Oranges weren’t the first new food for the rooster. He tried apples, with mixed results.

Although he did seem to like the apples, his beak couldn’t grab them the way he wanted, so he couldn’t eat them. Devyn tried cutting a smaller piece, but it wasn’t small enough. She’ll have to mince it for the rooster to really enjoy it.

As traditional pets become increasingly expensive to maintain, many people gravitate toward chickens as household pets. However, not all areas permit this. Check your zoning laws before adopting a chicken. Chickens are docile, trainable, and enjoy human contact.
