The Tallest And Fastest Elevator In The World Will Take Your Breath Away In The Best Way

View of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Hunan, China as seen from the world's tallest and fastest outdoor elevator. People stand with their phones out, recording the view

Sure, roller coasters are a fantastic way to go on a thrilling ride… but did you know that elevators can provide the same experience? Okay, so your average elevator isn’t going to be very exciting. But there are some exception, like the world’s tallest and fastest outdoor elevator. This impressive mode of transportation can be found in China. More specifically, it was built into the side of a cliff in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.

These three double-decker lifts take visitors 1,069 feet into the air at 9 feet per second. Wild, right? That makes their journey about two minutes long. For much of that time, visitors are treated to some of the most breathtaking views around. Experience them for yourself in the stunning video below!

@wildpoppytravels This is the Bailong Elevator, the longest AND fastest outdoor elevator in the world! This 326 meter (1069’) tall glass elevator is built into the mountain, and shoots you to the top at 3 meters (9 feet) per second. This is a must do in Zhangjiajie when headed to see the Hallelujah Mountains! #travel2025destinations #chinatourism #mountainscenery #traveltrendsideas #chinatravel #china #asia #zhangjiajie #solotravel #solofemaletraveler ♬ Beautiful World – A Year on Earth

You may be wondering: Why on Earth were elevators built here at all? For starters, it’s a great way for people to reach the top of the mountain. Otherwise, they would have to go on a 2.5 hour hike. Plus, this helps visitors reach other areas of the park, too.

Most obviously, though, they exist to provide views people would simply not get otherwise. In fact, it’s said that this very area is what inspired James Cameron’s Avatar films.

As incredible as these views are, there are still plenty of people who (understandably) are hesitant to give these elevators a shot. Luckily, there are a number of ways to enjoy them, even if you are afraid of heights. I’m referring, of course, to watching videos of other people riding the elevator.

“I’m so glad this is on video [because] my fear of heights COULD NEVER,” one person admits in the comments, another jokingly asking, “So you guys are at Willy Wonka Chocolate factory?”
