A new trend is taking over social media. People are posting videos of themselves and their pets doing the shimmy a day challenge. The sea lion trainers at Sea Lions of Surrey wanted to display how this trend works. To demonstrate, sea lion Hugo shows us how to do the shimmy a day challenge. It definitely seems to have taken his sad away.

Hugo has his shimmy a day down to a fine art. This trend started in April. For humans, the movement involves the shoulders. For animals, there are no restrictions, and the result is pure and unmitigated happiness. The background music is a remix of “There She Goes” by Cyril Riley and Moonlight. Most people caption the videos with some variation of “A shimmy a day keeps the sad away.”
At the3retrievers, they have some issues with counting (there are four retrievers), but their technique is rocking. Whether they are doing the shimmy a day challenge or just being goldens, retrievers seem to take the sad away just by being present. These guys are mood boosters all day, every day.
Dennis is a French Bulldog. He was embracing this cheerful trend before it became popular. This happy boy enjoys shimmying with a favorite toy. He proudly marches in front of the camera, bouncing from side to side like a professional dancer. It’s hard to say if that step would be called a prance or a Polka, but it qualifies as a shimmy.
If you can’t get enough of these shimmy a day clips, you’ll find many more here. Before we go, we have one more clip that you shouldn’t duck out on.
Please share the happiness to help someone make their sad go away.
