As the holiday season approaches, postal workers can expect to be busier than ever. Still, that did not stop this mailman from taking the time to rescue a total stranger. This harrowing event took place on Saturday afternoon in the Chicago area. Jaylen Lockhart was going about his day as usual when someone caught his attention from the rearview mirror.

An elderly man was walking his dog when, suddenly, he fell down. And by the looks of it, the fall could have been dangerous. Jaylen didn’t hesitate to turn around to help. He called 911, but he also did much more than that. He stayed with the elderly man, whose name is Guy Miller, instructing him to not get up in case he was hurt.
Jaylen asked for Guy’s address, allowing the postal worker to alert his wife, Marcia Miller, of what had happened. Amid the chaos of the situation, the Millers never got Jaylen’s name. So, they took to social media to find him. Once he was successfully located, they were able to offer him the “thanks” he deserves.
“I said, ‘What are you doing for Thanksgiving? You have family? Yeah?’ We said, ‘We’re family, definitely,'” Marcia shares.

In addition to the heartwarming invite, Jaylen’s heroic actions will be recognized by the city of Aurora next week. Though, according to the postal worker himself, this is simply how he was raised to treat others.
“I was raised that way,” Jaylen explains. “I was raised that way — my parents, my family — just, you look out for others. You know in the state that the world is in today, just kindness and grace is all that anyone ever needs.”
