Anyone working in law enforcement will tell you that every day is an adventure. Some days are better than others, particularly when it comes to responding to emergencies. You never know what you might get. A St. Johns County, Florida, deputy found himself in a rather strange situation when he was tasked with capturing a runaway emu. His body cam captured the encounter, and it’s pretty darn hilarious. The officer threatens to arrest the emu if it doesn’t comply. That darn bird wasn’t having it and wound up in handcuffs.

The Officer Failed to Read the Emu Its Rights
As the officer placed it under arrest, the emu looked right at his body cam, appalled by what had happened. OK, maybe not really, but it certainly makes for a much funnier story. The comment section on ABC News’ Instagram certainly thought so.
“He was shocked because the officer didn’t tell him why he was being arrested and didn’t read him his Miranda rights,” someone joked.
“ ’Don’t talk back to me.’ Mind you, the bird didn’t make a sound. He’s having too much fun,” another person wrote.
The look on that bird’s face said it all.
“Bro cannot believe he got caught. You arrested a veteran of the emu wars,” a follower noticed.
Of course, others thought the officer got away pretty lucky. Not all emus are as friendly as the one he arrested.
“As an Australian, I’m impressed. Apparently, Florida police are more competent than our Army 🤣🤣 (look up the Emu war… Spoiler we lost),” someone wrote.
“The cop is lucky enough to encounter a friendly Emu, not the aggressive one. Or he will have a hole in his stomach,” another person agreed.
