“Playing The Trumpet And The Ship Decided To Put The Cherry On Top”

Image shows a man playing a trumpet on a ship and being surprised by the ship's horn.

Alex Maestro is an international trumpet player. He has played his trumpet in every traditional and several non-traditional settings. One of the non-traditional settings was playing trumpet on the deck of a cruise ship. The open air gave the music a different tonal quality, and Alex was enjoying the freedom of the sound. He wasn’t expecting any other musicians to join in, so he got a bit of a shock when this happened.

Playing the trumpet and the ship decides to put the cherry on top. Perfect timing, no doubt. . . . #trumpet #viral #perfecttiming #ship

While playing trumpet on the ship, at a point in the music where he would take a breath (which he did), the ship’s horn sounded. The blast shocked Alex, who jumped. He did add some exaggeration for humorous effect. The timing of the ship’s horn was perfect.

The snippet Alex was playing is most recognizable as the intro to 20th Century Fox movies. It has been called the 20th Century Fox Fanfare, which dates back to 1933 when it was composed by Alfred Newman. It was the feature intro in all the Star Wars movies, which gave it a renewed lifespan.

If you think that Alex isn’t just “any old trumpet player,” you might be right. He is a veteran performer who plays with orchestras, bands, and as a solo performer. He holds a Master’s degree in Trumpet Performance from the Norwegian Academy of Music and has ten years of experience performing.

We’re unsure whether he was part of the cruise ship’s entertainment crew or simply a passenger enjoying an adventure on the cruise. We’re just glad to find this hilarious “cherry on top” performance.
