Plane Makes Emergency Landing At Texas Airport After Not Being Flown For 25 Years

A small plane lands without a landing gear. Foam is in the runway

When a plane is preparing to land, the last thing you want to hear is that there’s an issue. This is all the more true when that plane is being used for the first time in 25 years. But that’s the exact situation pilot Tony Williams and his co-pilot Ben Taylor found themselves in last Thursday. They were on their way to deliver the plane to its new owner, but their plans changed drastically when an emergency landing was needed.

According to Tony, there was a loud banging noise when they put the gear down. Soon, Tony realized that the left landing gear wasn’t coming down. He contacted air traffic control, and they were able to confirm that to be true. Knowing what was wrong, a plan was formulated to ensure Tony and Ben could land safely. Thankfully, Tony had the brilliant idea of using foam on the runway. See how his landing turned out in the video below.

@nbcdfw As the aircraft came into Arlington’s municipal airport, the pilot requested foam on the runway to make it easier to land. Two people exited the aircraft, apparently uninjured. Full report in link above 👆 #airplane #plane #landing #emergency #news #dfw #northtexas ♬ original sound – NBCDFW

Pilot and Co-Pilot Handle an Emergency Plane Landing in Texas with Impressive Ease

Because Tony requested the runway be covered with foam, the plane was able to have a much smoother landing. It also lowered the risk of the plane starting a fire. And to top it all off, their landing didn’t just look smooth — it felt just as shockingly smooth, too!

“It was smoother than most of my landings with wheels,” Ben admits. “All props to Tony, he’s a great pilot and we were weirdly having fun up there.”

Sadly, this older plane has likely taken its last flight. But what matters most, of course, is that Tony and Ben got out of this scary ordeal entirely unscathed. Their ability to remain calm and focused in a dire situation is incredibly admirable. Thankfully, even Tony himself recognizes the feat he managed to pull off!

“[The landing] looked really good,” Tony says. “It even impressed me, looking at the video.”
