Michelle Obama’s Reason For Seeing A Therapist Has Many Women Saying “Same”

Michelle Obama Therapy

No one ever said getting older was easy. As much as we try to prepare ourselves mentally and physically for the changes, it can still be daunting. Not even the most put-together people always have it all under control all the time. They will often seek professional help to get through life, and there is absolutely no shame in that. Even people like former First Lady Michelle Obama go to therapy. She recently opened up to the On Purpose podcast about her mental health journey, and her words resonated with many people.

“At this phase of my life, I’m in therapy right now because I’m transitioning, you know?” Michelle Obama told host Jay Shetty. “I’m 60 years old. I’ve finished a really hard thing in my life with my family intact. I’m an empty nester. My girls are in — you know, they’ve been launched.”

Michelle Obama Goes To Therapy For Herself

Michelle Obama explained that therapy is just for her and she doesn’t need to make excuses to put it off anymore.

“I now don’t have the excuse of, ‘Well, my kids need this’ or ‘My husband needs that’ or ‘The country needs that,'” she added. “So, I’m getting that tune-up for this next phase because I believe this is a whole ‘nother phase in life for me. And I now have the wisdom to know — let me go get some coaching while I’m doing it.”

Fans loved seeing Michelle Obama talk about her husband, therapy, and what her life is like.

A fan shared their gratitude on Instagram, writing, “So much powerful advice and great conversations in this episode.”

This person agreed. “Yes! True leadership is rooted in authenticity, grace, and service—and Michelle Obama embodies that truth effortlessly. We love you.”
