Former pro wrestler Marc Mero has a story we all need to hear. After years of hanging out with the wrong crowd, getting drunk and high and nearly dying three different times, Marc’s life was totally rocked when his mother suddenly passed away.
In this particular video, he’s speaking to a group of middle school kids about his mother’s love throughout his life of poor choices. It’s part of his non-profit speaking tour called Champion of Choices, in which Marc shares his story and aims to empower kids to make positive choices.
As Marc gets further and further into his story, you can see the students are totally captivated. But the real emotions come out when he shares about his mother’s love.
While he was on a wrestling tour in Japan, Marc received a phone call at 3 a.m. The person on the end of the line told him he had bad news, but couldn’t bring himself to share the news. After Marc pressed him for a bit, he finally broke into tears and said his mother had passed away. Marc told the students he threw down the phone and ran outside of his hotel room, devastated.
Then Marc talks about the day of her funeral, when he walked up to her casket. That’s when he told the students, “All she ever wanted to do was talk to me.” After years of ignoring her love and care, Marc never got the moment to simply talk with his mother. So now he’s on a mission to help students avoid the poor decisions he made, especially when it comes to the importance of family.
