Man Who Tried To Save Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s Life Released From Hospital

There is a bit of good news in the tragic drowning death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The 54-year-old The Cosby Show star passed away on July 20 while swimming with family in Costa Rica. A witness reportedly tried to save him, but Malcolm sadly passed away. According to People, Dr. Mauricio Solano Corella, Medical Director for the Talamanca Health Area, said the Good Samaritan was a 29-year-old man from Nicaragua. Following the drowning, emergency responders transported the man to an area hospital for treatment. Doctors recently released him after making a full recovery.

Dr. Corella told People in a statement that the man was “found to be stable and was discharged without complications.”

The Judicial Investigation Agency Claims Current Swept Malcolm-Jamal Warner Away

The OIJ released a statement obtained by People about Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s death. It stated, “the victim appears to have entered the sea and was apparently swept away by a current. The man was rescued by bystanders and taken to shore, where he received treatment from the Costa Rican Red Cross. However, he was declared lifeless at the scene.”

According to People, Malcolm-Jamal Warner was passionate about his podcast, Not All Hood, calling it a space where he could be himself and his most “vulnerable.”

“When we talk about the Black community, we tend to speak of it as a monolith when the reality is there are so many different facets of the Black community, and we wanted to have a space where we can really explore, discuss, and acknowledge all of those different aspects,” he said.

Just a few weeks before his death, Malcolm-Jamal Warner posted about Be Love Day on Instagram, encouraging followers to participate.

“Our World House needs for us to BE LOVE. Our collective holistic health depends on it,” he shared. “Why? It’s going to be actionable, inspiring, and strategic – with virtual and in-person experiences. An interactive exploration and celebration of what LOVE can do in every area of our lives, including in our collaboration to create the #BelovedCommunity.”
