As the threat of Hurricane Milton loomed, many Floridians got to work prepping their homes for the worst. Hurricanes often bring with them heavy wind and rain that can cause significant damage to people’s homes. People in areas where hurricanes are common typically have windows designed to withstand dangerous weather conditions, but they still worry about flooding. Sometimes, you can do nothing but hope and pray you are safe. Or, you can be innovative and hope it works.

One Naples Family Came Up With a Genius Idea To Keep Their Home Safe From Hurricane Milton
Nicolette Lollino posted a video on Instagram of her father prepping his home for Hurricane Milton. Her dad surrounded the house with sandbags to help absorb water. After laying the bags, he filled the spots with spray foam. The text on the video says, “My dad said no way is a hurricane ruining this house again.”
This person defended the idea, “Even though people are claiming it’s futile if anyone that gets the idea to do this for their home, they should stack the sandbags in a half circle pattern arched away from the doors and windows. The flat wall is not as strong as an arch. Sand bags alone can be very effective if stacked correctly. Just trying to help instead of bashing people trying to survive.”
It seems they were correct. Nicolette posted an update to her dad’s projection, and the house was totally dry.
Someone joked, “Insurance company better send you a rate reduction after this one.”
This person agreed, “I love it! These hurricanes are making us smarter! We aren’t in a flood zone but sideways rains goes into windows seals and causes leaks. We used spray foam, visqueen, and plywood.”
