If you have ever had a kitten or cat, you know the one big truth that is a trait they all seem to share. If the cat is awake, everyone should be awake. Claire Montanari and her husband, David, discovered that their cat Dewey has that trait. The young kitten learned to turn on the electronic keyboard and activate the sample music. He was up at six in the morning, so everyone needed to be up.

The best part about this morning serenade is Dewey’s choice of music. The song is Nessum Dorma, which was made famous by the opera singer Luciano Pavarotti. The original by composer Giacomo Puccini is in Italian. It became popular in the 1990s when the BBC used Pavarotti’s 1972 recording as the anthem for the 1990 World Cup in Italy. Unless you understand Italian, you still miss this musical selection’s most hilarious part.
The translation of the first two lines of the original Italian words to English is “Nobody shall sleep!
Nobody shall sleep!” So there you have it. Dewey is programmed to wake the entire house when he is up. The young kitten passed his keyboard lessons and knew the perfect song to awaken his humans.
It’s probably their fault for blocking access to the upstairs. The couple cleverly blocked the spiral staircase so the cat could not join them in bed. When she moved over to peer downstairs, Claire asked Dewey if he wanted her awake. The cat looked up with an expression that said, “Yes, that was my intention.”

Dewey is a rescue. Claire and David saw his picture on a shelter website, and it was love at first sight. They adopted him right away.
