Neglected Cat Is Unrecognizable After Rescuers Shave Off 2 Lbs Of Matted Fur.

When Julie Bolchalk of the Arizona Humane Society first saw her poor charge, she wasn’t sure what kind of animal she was looking at.

As an emergency veterinary medical technician, Julie has responded to many rescue calls in the past, but this one was different. The poor thing was trapped inside a mass of matted fur, and Julie couldn’t hide her shock when she realized she was looking at a cat.

“I have seen some rather horrific cases in my time rescuing animals but had never seen matting this bad – they were larger than her entire body,” Julie said.

She rushed 4-year-old Fluffer to AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital and got to work. Fluffer had been rescued shortly after her owner passed away, and while it was obvious she had been neglected, Julie and the rest of her team couldn’t find any other health issues. Not only that, but Fluffer never resisted her groomers.

“She is an absolute sweetheart, so much so that she required no sedation during her procedure, which is extremely unusual when caring for cats who are likely in pain,” said Bretta Nelson, AHS’ public relations manager.

By the end of her treatment, they had removed 2 pounds of fur – from an 8-pound cat! Not only was Fluffer unrecognizable afterward, but she also must have felt so relieved.

And the best was yet to come for this beautiful girl. Two days later, she was adopted! Now, she’s living the good life at her forever home in Glendale!

We can only imagine what Fluffer has endured, but we’re so happy she’s free now! Thank you to everyone at AHS for giving animals like her these beautiful second chances.
