If you know, you know. When you’re a husky owner, and you live in a snowy region, you know. You are evil if snow is on the ground outside and your husky is inside. Ask any husky, and they will tell you about the tragedy of being an inside prisoner. Loudly.

Jess Luna and her husband have two dogs. The border collie, Po, is rather chill and happy-go-lucky. The husky Modi is rather high-strung and mouthy, especially when you restrict his snow time. With several inches of snow on the ground, Modi wants to be outside. Po is content to winter inside.

After spending an hour romping and playing, they brought Modi in, and he was NOT happy. Jess’s neighbor said they were “abusing” the dog by leaving him outside. Any husky owner knows that is 100 percent incorrect. One hour in the snow is just a drop in the bucket.
Huskies, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Great Pyrenees, Alaskan Malamutes, and other cold-weather breeds all love snow. These animals have a double fur coat with a long outer layer and a soft undercoat. These breeds have traits that make them perfectly designed machines for cold and snow. After listening to her husky grumble about being a prisoner, Jess let him back in the snow.
Modi is content to stand in the fluffy stuff. The slow tale wag as he looks at Jess in the door: he’s wondering if she’s going to make him come in. Say it isn’t so! He JUST got back outside!
The family has a house full of other pets. You can follow Jess Luna on TikTok for more family fun (aka the Marvelous Misadventures of Modi).
