Diver Shows Her Unique Way Of Preparing For Her First 20M Dive Of The Season

High diver Molly Carlson lays on her stomach on the diving board. She looks back at the camera, a look of uncertainty on her face

High divers have to be some of the bravest people around. In competitions, women will dive from heights as great as 20 meters (that’s around 65 feet). Professional divers make what they do look so simple, it can be easy to forget that even they get nervous. Molly Carlson, an award-winning high diver from Canada, recently proved just that in a super honest video on social media.

It was the start of the diving season, so it had been a while since Molly dove from this height. So, when she made her way to the diving board, even she was surprised by how intimidating it was. Luckily, she has a clever way to get herself adjusted to such great heights. See for yourself in the delightful video below!

In order to “test” how far away the ground is from the diving board, Molly will toss a shoe. This silly method proves to be rather useful. Plus, I imagine it’s also pretty darn fun to throw a random object like that off a diving board. While this did help Molly, it’s clear that, for most of us, nothing could get us to jump from that height.

“Why am I scared of the camera falling like I’m gonna fall,” someone asks in the comments, another person admitting, “I got dizzy when you threw the shoe lol.”

It can feel as though athletes like Molly have to be completely and totally fearless to do what they do. On the contrary, this Canadian diver is all about being anxious and still doing the brave thing anyway. She even started what she calls the BraveGang, a community that’s all about taking care of yourself and those in your community. How cool is that!?
