A commenter asked this deaf TikToker where she picked up her British accent, so she recruited her mom to help explain. Her response has gone viral with over three million views! In the video, Mom revealed that accents come from the way that we move our mouths. Since her daughter grew up moving her lips the same way as everyone around her, she developed the same accent when she spoke.
“When you are deaf you copy the mouth shape of people around you, so you have the same accent as them,” said the TikToker’s mother.
People in the comments section were shocked to find out where accents come from, and they were grateful to the deaf young woman and her mom for sharing this information.
