Not everyone has to play by the same rulebook. Take Mark Thomas, for example. He waited until after his wedding to pop the question, and when he did, it wasn’t to his wife.

He and his wife, Kathryn, had been together since 2012, and they already had a daughter together, so it just made sense to get married at some point. And that point finally came in April this year. But for whatever reason, their daughter, 4-year-old Evelyn, decided to appropriate the date as her own and ran around telling everyone it was her big day!

Neither Mark nor Kathryn bothered to correct her, and in fact encouraged her point of view, because even though they may not have come out and said it, the ceremony “was just as much about her as it was about us,”Mark noted.
Great, but that raises a really interesting question: If it was her big day, why didn’t she get a ring?

Fair enough. So at the end of May, Mark set about making things right, and properly so: down on one knee, solemn look in his eyes… the whole shebang. (Although, we’re guessing he skipped the whole asking the father for permission thing because that would’ve been tricky.)
Off he went to a jewelry store to get a ring for his little girl, and when he came home, he sat her down on the couch so he could say what he needed to say.
Twitter
“You know Mommy and Daddy got married and we’re a family now, me, you and Mommy. Well, Mommy and Daddy have got rings, haven’t we? Mommy’s got two rings.â€
He should’ve left that part out. This is news to Evelyn.
“Two?”
“So what I did was, I went to the shop and I got you one. So, you know we always wanted to be married, all three of us…â€
Dramatic pause…
“Will you marry me?â€

If you’re holding your breath, you can go ahead and let it out now. Of course, she said yes!
