Bold Media is a single dad. His daughter is adorable, fluffy, and shaped like a hot dog. Her name is Khaleesi. She is a long-haired miniature dachshund and possibly the smallest cattle dog in history. She barely reaches the fetlock (that would be the ankle) on a cow’s leg. Leesi (as her dad calls her) disappears in the tall grass. The cows outweigh her by thousands of pounds. But this little dachshund loves herding cattle.

When her dad utters the command, “Push ’em” she is off and running. Circling the edge of the herd, she begins moving them up the slight hill and away from the road. She responds immediately to the command, “Back.” Her dad worries about her because once she gets up into the grass, she disappears.

The tiny little dog is very effective at moving the large cows. Never in our wildest imagination would we have envisioned a dachshund herding cattle. One thing that helps this mighty little dog is that, despite their size, dachshunds have a “big dog” voice.
The cows belong to a neighbor. They must like Khaleesi because they break through the cattle guard to visit her. When she “pushes” the herd, she is moving them back toward their farm through the gap in the fence. Her Dad is very protective of her and calls her back once the herd begins moving.
Dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers, and they have no fear in their tiny little bodies. Their size allows them to easily scramble into burrows. The breed is very intelligent, but also independent. They can be stubborn and challenging to train, but Khaleesi’s dad has done great with her training.
Please share this fearless dachshund cattle-herding dog.
