Struggling retail pharmacies Rite Aid and Walgreens announced closures this year. CVS is now joining them in trimming the fat by closing hundreds of stores. The pharmacy announced it will shutter 271 locations to position itself better financially. Though it did not disclose which locations, Newsweek cited the website The Krazy Coupon Lady who compiled a list of closures thus far in 2025.

CVS Health President and CEO David Joyner shared his vision in a February earnings report.
“Our integrated model allows us to uniquely deliver a simpler, connected experience that saves time, saves money, and improves health. We have continued to see growth in key areas of our business, including the Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness segment, while we address the industry-wide challenges that have impacted our Health Care Benefits segment,” he said. “Through the continued dedication of our colleagues, we will be positioned for strong performance in 2025 as we deliver simply better care for consumers while improving outcomes and reducing costs.”
Even After Closing Stores, CVS Will Have Thousands Of Open Locations
The company’s website boasts more than 9,000 pharmacy locations and claims, “Around 85% of Americans live within five miles of a CVS Pharmacy.” That will change for some people as closures continue.
Newsweek reported CVS closed or announced closures in 18 states thus far.
