Crowd Gives Standing Ovation to Teen Who Stepped in for Deployed Dad During Memorial Day Ceremony

Memorial Day

Each year on the last Monday of May, Americans remember those who lost their lives serving our country in the armed forces. Many schools, churches, and community organizations hold events to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom of others. On May 25, 2026, many gathered at the Milton, Vermont, fire station to hear veterans and their families speak about their military service, WCAX reported.

“I lost my father 2 years ago. He served in Vietnam. It’s been my mission to attend these events and do other social things to celebrate him and other veterans,” Milton resident Sean Tatro recalled. “Every day, veterans are not being celebrated. They should be celebrated every day. And we have a group of veterans that serve our community and have done such an excellent job doing it.”

A Teenage Girl Took The Microphone for a Touching Memorial Day Speech

In addition to honoring veterans, Milton used the Memorial Day gathering to honor those currently serving the United States, including resident Senior Master Sergeant Darren Adams. Sgt. Adams is currently deployed as part of Operation Epic Fury in Iran. His daughter, Brooke Adams, stepped in for her day with a beautifully tear-jerking speech.

“The people we honor today carried burdens many of us will never fully understand. Some returned home forever changed, and some never returned home at all,” Brooke said. “That is why Memorial Day matters. It matters because memory keeps sacrifice from fading into history. It reminds us that courage is real, that service matters, and that freedom comes with a cost. It reminds us to value not only our country, but one another.”

Sgt. Adams watched as his daughter gave her Memorial Day speech and could not help but become emotional. She said he was proud and overwhelmed by his every brave 15-year-old daughter.
