If you’re from the 1900s like us, you’ve probably checked the help wanted ads in the newspaper. You’ve also likely filled out a paper job application and handed it to a manager. You also probably printed your resume on linen paper before you mailed it, so it would stand out. Those days are long gone. As newspapers went out of fashion, career websites became the way people found their jobs. Among the biggest and most memorable were CareerBuilder + Monster. CareerBuilder + Monster Entered Into A Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
According to a news release, the company voluntarily entered bankruptcy proceedings in the hopes of saving CareerBuilder + Monster.
“For over 25 years, we have been a proud global leader in helping job seekers and companies connect and empower employment across the globe. However, like many others in the industry, our business has been affected by a challenging and uncertain macroeconomic environment,” Jeff Furman, CEO of CareerBuilder + Monster, said in a news release. “In light of these conditions, we ran a robust sale process and carefully evaluated all available options. We determined that initiating this court-supervised sale process is the best path toward maximizing the value of our businesses and preserving jobs.”
The news of CareerBuilder + Monster filing bankruptcy started big conversations online.
“Even Monster and CareerBuilder can’t find work these days,” someone joked on X.
But this person just started using the sites. “I left LinkedIn and took my talents to CareerBuilder and Monster… I’ve gotten so many emails and calls from recruiters this week alone.”
“I didn’t even know Monster still exist. Indeed in that girl for me thou,” a follower responded.
Furman intends to keep CareerBuilder + Monster going.
“As we work to complete the sale process, we are making difficult but necessary decisions to reduce costs and help ensure a seamless transition of our businesses. As a company in the business of people and talent management, reducing our workforce is always a painful step to take. I greatly appreciate our people, their contributions to CareerBuilder + Monster and the commitment and passion they have shown to our company, our clients and our colleagues.”
