Burger King Embroiled In Lawsuit For Surprising Reason

Burger King Lawsuit

It has long been questioned how much truth there is in advertising. As consumers, we hope the advertisements we see and hear are accurate representations. But sometimes, when we purchase a product or use a service, we find it’s not quite what we expected. Multiple Burger King customers say the company told lies about their products. Now, the burger giant is embroiled in a lawsuit for misrepresentation.

According to Reuters, 19 customers from 13 states believe Burger King lied in advertisements for products like the Whopper. The plaintiffs claim that food photography took liberties with product styling and made the burgers look 35% larger than they actually are.

Burger King Attempted To Have The Lawsuit Dismissed

A judge said it was probable that Burger King did in fact misrepresent itself and decided not to throw the lawsuit out. Burger King reportedly admitted some food photographers “styled sandwiches more beautifully,” but it was innocent.

U.S. District Judge Roy Altman deemed the advertisements “go beyond mere exaggeration or puffery,” and wants the lawsuit heard before a judge.

“The plaintiffs’ claims are false,” Burger King said in a statement obtained by Reuters. “The flame-grilled beef patties portrayed in our advertising are the same patties used in the millions of burgers we serve to guests across the U.S.”

People shared their thoughts on the Burger King lawsuit on X.

One person wrote, “I haven’t been to a Burger King in years but I don’t need an ad to tell me what the sandwiches look like. Lawsuits like this remain one reason why people hate lawyers.”

Another brought jokes. “Every pushup bra company in the world is sweating. Burger King being sued for ads that make its products look larger than they are.”

This person totally disagrees with the suit writing on X, “I just heard on FNC some judge is allowing a class action lawsuit against Burger king to proceed. IMO the judge should be FIRED immediately for frivolous use of government time/funds. CAVEAT EMPTOR should rule unless there is a safety issue with a product. Period.”
