Legendary Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson died on June 11. Although he reportedly had dementia, his sudden death came as a shock to those who loved him. Per TMZ, more than two weeks after his death, The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office released his official cause of death as respiratory arrest. The report also listed sepsis and cystitis as contributing factors. According to the American CPR Care Associates, respiratory arrest occurs when a person’s breathing ceases. This can be caused by a variety of conditions, including choking, asthma, drug overdose, or neurological conditions.

“When someone stops breathing, the situation becomes life-threatening in a matter of minutes. Respiratory arrest occurs when a person’s breathing completely ceases, leading to a lack of oxygen in the body. This condition can quickly progress to cardiac arrest if not treated immediately, making it essential to act fast,” the organization explains.
Brian Wilson’s Death Marked The End Of An Era
Brian Wilson formed the Beach Boys in 1961 with his brothers Dennis Wilson and Carl Wilson and their cousin Mike Love. Together, they created a genre of music that is often imitated but can never be duplicated. Following his death, fans and family dedicated hundreds of thousands of social media posts to Brian Wilson.
Brian gave us some incredibly memorable music that will stay on summer playlists forever. Among the most amazing tributes to Brian popped up on a billboard in Los Angeles. His daughter, Carnie Wilson, shared an image of the graphic on Instagram that simply read, “Brian, it was nice.” A nod to one of his biggest hits.
“Just in the streets of LA… I can’t get over this. His spirit is floating around seeing all these billboards and dedications. It’s mind blowing and beautiful,” Carnie wrote on Instagram. “My heart is both heavy and full of gratitude and light. Daddy … I’m missing you and loving you.”
Brian Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Melinda, in 2024. He was 82 years old when he passed away.
