Scientists Capture AMAZING Photo That Finally Proves ‘INSANELY Cool’ Theory

electrical phenomenon

One of our favorite parts of social media is learning things we might never have seen otherwise. Posts on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X have the potential of reaching millions of people. Jordan Steele, a meteorologist from Atlanta, shared the coolest photo of a never-before-seen electrical phenomenon that will blow your mind.

“INSANELY cool! Scientists observed purple sparks emitting from trees during a thunderstorm. These weak electrical discharges or ‘Coronae’ were always hypothesized to exist but had never been captured before. Meteorologists at Penn State were able to document this using UV tech,” Jordan wrote.

People Loved Seeing the Electrical Phenomenon

Some had heard of this electrical phenomenon before, but seeing the picture really got them excited.

“My Earth Science teacher taught us this in the 1980s. ‘Leaders’ Coronal discharge. Lightning connects in the air, the electricity follows the path of least resistance, and we see a “strike”. This phenomenon is visible when someone’s hair stands up during a thunderstorm right before a strike. Also, St. Elmo’s Fire,” someone wrote.

Photographers hope to capture this electrical phenomenon themselves someday.

“Now that I know this is a thing in UV, it’s my goal to film it. I’m pretty sure I have most of the stuff needed on hand to film it right now save for the lens,” someone wrote.

“That’s unreal. I’m pretty much not rest until I get a picture of this,” another person agreed.

Just seeing those pretty purple lights on the tips of the leaves was enough for some. We have to agree, this really is awesome.

“Insanely cool stuff right here,” someone wrote.

“No more need for Christmas lights!” Another person agreed.
