As the only brother to four younger sisters, I could go on and on about our childhood shenanigans. Growing up, we played around, got into plenty of trouble and had our share of arguments, but the moment they needed me to be their big brother I was there in a heartbeat. That is what brothers do.
A doctor named Jim Clark was blown away by the selfless attitude of a little boy toward his twin sister. He had to operate on the young girl and the hospital was plum out of O negative blood. The doctor approached the young boy to ask if he’d donate blood to his sister, and what happened next was pure gold.
Today, I Operated on a little girl. She needed O negative blood. We didn’t have any, but her twin brother has O negative blood. I explained to him that it was a matter of life and death. He sat quietly for a moment, and then said goodbye to his parents. I didn’t think anything of it until after we took his blood and asked, “So when will I die?” He thought he was giving his life for hers. Thankfully, they’ll both be fine.
Even though the little boy thought he was going to die, he was willing to do it to save his little sister. What an amazing story!
