Legendary Blues Artist Joe Louis Walker Dead At 75

Legendary blues artist Joe Louis Walker passed away after a cardiac-related incident in Poughkeepsie, New York. Per the New York Times, his wife, Robin Poritzky-Walker, confirmed the cause of death and said her husband passed away on April 30 at a hospital.

Joe’s agency, Ketch Agency, shared a statement about his death, writing,

“We are beyond saddened to share with you that Joe Louis Walker has passed. He was truly one of a kind and will leave a hole in the Blues world not easily filled. Go easy, Joe.” 

Fans Paid Tribute To Joe Louis Walker Online

Joe was born on Christmas Day 1949 in San Francisco. He began playing the guitar as a child and spent more than six decades in the entertainment industry. Fans paid tribute to the musician on X.

“Rest in peace to blues legend Joe Louis Walker, a true musician’s musician whose guitar spoke volumes. From gospel tents to Grammy nods, his restless soul gave the blues new shape for over four decades,” someone wrote.

“‘It’s in your heart, your soul, and your mind, you just don’t know it. Because everybody’s got the blues, from the president on down to the dogcatcher, you know?’ Joe Louis Walker was nominated for a Grammy Award for his 2015 album, ‘Everybody Wants a Piece,'” another fan shared.

‘Heavy heart I bring you this sad news my good friend Joe Louis Walker has left this mortal coil. Thank you for your wonderful guidance, words of encouragement, blinding truth & magical times. Mr. Walker was exceptional as a musician but a marvel when he sang angels listened, RIP,” a beautiful tribute reads.

Tis fan shared their favorite memory writing, “RIP Joe Louis Walker. He was great bluesman who I actually got to see play live a couple of times. I really enjoyed his collaboration with Murali Coryell.”
