When her mom said a bird on her daily walk had attacked her, Paris Mohammadipour was skeptical. Supposedly, the bird was terrorizing her mom for no reason. Welp, one video session later, Paris had definitive proof that a bird, unprovoked, was indeed terrorizing her mom.

After discovering her mom was right about the antagonistic bird, Paris crowdsourced information on how to make it stop. Fortunately, there is plenty of information available, and her followers on TikTok were somewhat helpful in identifying the grey acrobatic flyer.
The bird that is terrorizing Paris’s mom is a Northern mockingbird, and that behavior is their trademark. The robin-sized bird is fiercely territorial. In the summer, they will defend their nesting area. The males typically build a nest in shrubs from three to ten feet from the ground. Looking at the vegetation in front of the house she is passing, the nest is likely in that wall of shrubs.

The mockingbird perches on the top of the light pole, giving it a broad vantage to see and neutralize potential threats. It will maintain vigilance in this area until its young have fledged and it moves on to its winter home. Since they are mostly monogamous, there is likely a second bird nearby ready to join in the terrorizing of Paris’ mom. They will move to their winter feeding ground after August.
In the animal world, mockingbirds are fearless in the defense of their territory. They don’t care how big an opponent is. If something wanders through its territory, it will attack mercilessly. Paris’s mom should walk on the opposite side of the street, and that will likely help her avoid the bird that is terrorizing her daily walks.
