Bill Murray Jokes About His Infamous Fry Stealing Reputation

Bill Murray is one of those celebrities you feel you know even though you’ve never met him. He may be a star whose career spans decades, but he totally seems like the kind of guy you could sit down and have lunch and a normal conversation with. Apparently, Bill is friendly, too, and has long been rumored to be somewhat of a thief. Don’t worry, we’re talking very petty theft. He evidently takes french fries from unsuspecting people’s plates at restaurants. Page Six spotted Bill Murray on the red carpet at a screening of Riff Raff and asked if people needed to keep their eyes on their fries in his presence. “Man’s gotta eat, man’s gotta eat,” Bill joked.

He joked fries “often just lean off a plate and they’re ready.” He added, “usually have a couple of spares.”

“Come on, it’s New York! There’s a lot of excess here, there’s plenty of food,” Bill quipped.

The rumor evidently got started on Reddit years ago. A poster claimed Bill stole their fries in New York City.

They wrote, “It was earlier today around noon near Times Square. I’ve been on vacation with a couple of my friends in the city and most of them were sleeping in after a late night. I strolled out of the hotel and made my way to a nearby McDonald’s to grab some fries and a shake. When I was waiting to cross at the 46th and 7th crosswalk, I noticed a hand slip around me from behind and grab two of my fries.”

After realizing it was Bill, the OP turned and Bill Murray yelled, “No one will ever believe you.”

This person loved the story, writing, “I’m convinced his characters aren’t much of a stretch from his real-life personality.”
