How many times in your life has an opportunity arisen that would have been incredibly exciting to participate in but it ultimately meant having to do something scary first to get to the fun part? If you are honest with yourself, that number is probably pretty high – unless you are completely fear free, in which case teach us your ways! However, when we look back on our lives, there are probably multiple times that we said no to the awesome moments because we did not want to have to face a fear.

Sometimes there is even growing that we need to do in our personal lives and it’s not necessarily fun. It might involve a lot of dedication, hard work, and cutting out distractions that keep us from reaching that goal. Getting to that point where we can challenge ourselves and then look back and see how we’ve grown will mean that sooner or later, we will have to face the hard stuff, the things that make us feel queasy and sick to our stomachs; which is how most of us feel about the act of skydiving.

In a video posted by Goalcast, Will Smith tells a thrilling story about his skydiving experience. His account of the day is so vividly detailed and animated, it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
He shares how having a drink with friends led to one person asking them all to go skydiving in the morning. His friend’s become so excited by the idea that it becomes contagious and they quickly all commit to go.
“Then that night, you’re laying in your bed and you just keep, ‘Uh, uh.’ You’re terrified,” Will shares in the video. “You keep imagining over and over again jumping out of an airplane, and you can’t figure out why you would do that.”

Even though he was filled with fear about flying through the air, Will decides he cannot be the one person who chickens out and continues with the group’s plan.
The group boards the plane, but as the airplane steadily climbs higher, the whole idea starts to feel crazier and crazier. Before he has time to think about it much more, the door to the airplane is opening and they are counting down to the jump.
Then Will jumps out and he is free-falling.

This intimidating experience is similar to what we walk through everyday in normal life, just without the airplanes and skydiving equipment.
“You realize at the point of maximum danger is the point of minimum fear. It’s bliss,” Will says.
He challenges the audience with the question of why they even needed the fear in the first place. Deep down in our hearts we all know that if we just took those steps forward, no matter how tough they might be to do, the ultimate reward on the other side would be unbelievably wonderful.
As Will says, “On the other side of your maximum fear are all of the best things in life.”
