Ignorant Owner Nearly Kills Dog By Dying Her Purple, But Vets Are Amazed By Recovery.

Not everyone understands what it means to be a responsible pet owner. They may think of pets as dolls, fashion accessories, or even furry versions of humans. This mental disconnect can lead to the sort of decision-making that can be life-threatening to animals.

For instance, one former pet owner thought it was a good idea to dye their dog’s hair purple. The heartbreaking result nearly turned deadly.

Meet Violet.

This sweet five-pound Maltese was originally a snowy white. However, Violet’s thoughtless former owner believed that the dog would look better if she were purple. They used human hair dye on the poor pup, resulting in horrific burns and a great deal of pain.

Violet was turned over to Pinellas County Animal Services in such horrible condition, no one was sure if she’d live very long. They shaved her hair to better assess the damage and were stunned and heartbroken at just how bad she looked.

We gave [Violet] fluids, pain meds and we gently washed as much of the chemical dye off as we could, we bandaged her up.

Then…Violet went home with our veterinarian and we waited. And she came in the next morning and we were amazed that she had made it through the night.

It took three long months of “pain medication, antibiotics, IV fluids, honey treatments, scab removal, anesthetizing, bandage changes, sleepless nights, worrying, hope, worrying, hope” for Violet to recover.

During this time, the Maltese revealed herself to be loving and friendly – definitely a welcome addition to anyone’s home!

When the final bandages came off, everyone breathed “a collective sigh of relief.”

“Violet was beautiful. She will always have her own individual style and that’s just fine with her new owners, who specialize in beautifying pets.”

Not only had Violet made a complete recovery, she’s now in the loving care of responsible owners who know how to safely and sensibly style pets.

We sincerely wish Violet the best with her new life and want to remind everyone to NEVER use human hair dye on animals!

As Pinellas County Animal Service explained, “Only use products specifically meant for pets or you could be putting your pet’s life on the line.” And no loving pet’s life is worth a tacky dye job!
