4-Yr-Old With Cerebral Palsy Had Never Walked, But Uber Passenger’s Surprise Has Everyone Beaming.

We’ve seen some amazing stories of kindness here at InspireMore. Random acts of kindness happen every day and often come from the most unlikely place. This time, a chance encounter with an Uber driver resulted in a dream come true for a preschooler who’d never stood on his own two feet.

4-year-old Luis Tamarez was born with cerebral palsy and had never walked a step in his life. Seeing Luis’s positive attitude and love for life, staff at North Main Elementary School wanted to buy him a therapeutic device that could help him walk again, but the budget just wasn’t there.

A substitute teacher at the school, Yorel Browne, also happens to drive for Uber. One day, her conversation with a passenger turned to Luis. She told the stranger about the financial setbacks the school was facing. Without hesitation, Browne’s passenger, Jim Burke, offered to foot the $500 bill.

“It was a no-brainer. It touched me. It didn’t even take a split second. It was a very easy decision,”said Burke.

Both Burke and Browne stopped by Luis’s classroom when the device finally arrived. Luis was all smiles from the moment the news hit, but the look on his face after walking for the first time is pure joy to see.

“He was just overjoyed and smiling. … I remember him saying, ‘I’m walking,’”Burke said.
