Utahns Rally To Help Stranded Veteran Get Back Home After His Truck Breaks Down.

If you ask Troy Blevins of Fargo, North Dakota, where his happy place is, he’d say the woods and trails of Utah.

The Army veteran loves basking in the serenity of the state’s remote areas. That’s why he visits every year. But it’s not just the place that has captured his heart – it’s the people, too!

This year, Troy traveled to Utah as per usual: alone with his dog, his utility terrain vehicle, and his camper trailer. What didn’t go according to plan was his truck unexpectedly breaking down on the highway in Fillmore. Completely stranded, he wasn’t sure how he would make it back home.

“I was literally thinking to myself, ‘Am I just going to have to sell everything and just start walking?’ I didn’t know,” he told KSL.

In need of some quick cash, Troy ended up selling his UTV. He also turned to the UTV Utah Facebook page and asked if anyone could tow his truck and trailer back to Fargo. That’s when the community thanked him for his military service in an incredible way.

Hours later, group members had already donated enough to give him a safe place to spend the night!

And the kindness kept coming! Not only did the dealer General RV tow his truck and trailer to nearby Salt Lake City, but Premier Auto Care, a local repair shop, also fixed his truck at no cost!

Even more amazing? Bud Bruening, the Facebook page’s administrator, met up with Troy – and brought him to tears. Bud revealed that his group had put even more of their money together to surprise Troy with a brand new UTV!

“I don’t know what to say,” Troy said. “I don’t have the words to tell these people how much gratitude I have – that I am a complete stranger and they helped me.”

“I’m going to find a way to pay it forward,” he added. “You can bet that.”

As for the way Bud and his fellow UTV-ers see it? Troy earned every ounce of kindness he received.

“He’s had 23 surgeries and spent 16 months at Walter Reed Hospital trying to get his body going again. He did it all for our country,” Bud said. “I get choked up just thinking about it, and then to have the community do what they did? Man, it’s pretty awesome.”

It’s no wonder Troy loves Utah so much! With all these supportive people around (strangers, no less!), we wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to move there permanently.
