Man Quits Corporate Job To Travel U.S. Helping Rescue Animals.

We can’t all just quit our jobs, sell our belongings and head off into the sunset, but we can do it vicariously through people like the strapping Lee Asher.

Until earlier this year, he lived in Venice, California, and worked as a corporate trainer. But after raising money through a Kickstarter campaign, he and his best friend, dog photographer Luke Barton, quit their jobs, got out of their leases and hit the road with one goal: Getting 48 dogs out of shelters in each of the continental states and getting them into forever homes.

Lee’s six rescue dogs are along for the ride, so they’re traveling the country in a battleship gray RV. Its exterior helps draw attention to their cause, and its custom interior has been designed specifically with the dogs’ comfort in mind.

They mostly lounge around in the carriage when they’re on the road, or climb up on a platform above the driver’s seat to nap. But it’s boring always being the passenger, so Lee lets the larger dogs — like Bo Bo in the photo below — take the wheel once in a while, just to keep things interesting.

The other four-legged passengers include Lillie (Saint Bernard), Cali (Golden retriever), Stella (pit bull-Cane Corso mix) and Molly and Butters (both small mixed breeds). They’re all rescues, and serve as ambassadors for the trip, funded through a Kickstarter campaign that raised $57,000 in just a few months.

Dog lovers were more than happy to chip in for such a noble cause. Most of us would jump at the chance for an adventure like this!

I know what you are thinking — 48 States in an RV with 6 rescues? Sounds insane, right? What’s insane to me is how all these lovable animals ended up in shelters in the first place. Now it’s time to show them a life far from a cage. We will also be stopping at an animal shelter in each state to bring awareness to pet adoption, as well as our main goal of getting a pet adopted in each state.

But they’re not just shooting from Point A to Point B and so on, instead taking a more leisurely approach and stopping whenever the mood strikes to stretch their legs and take in the scenery. Luke’s documenting the entire journey on their Instagram account, which has the tagline:

“2 guys in an RV with dry senses of humor who love dogs who love people who want to change the world with one rescue at a time.”

It’s chock full of pictures like the one above, taken just nine days into the trip when they were en route to Dallas, Texas. And at the rate they’re going, they’re going to easily surpass their goal:

“12 dogs adopted so far at the meet n greets, lets gooooooo!â€

Who knows where this picture was taken. And Bo Bo couldn’t care less, he just wants a belly rub.

These rescue ambassadors plan to wrap up the trip in November, with a final stop in Alaska before heading back to sunny Los Angeles. That’s four more months of adventures for this party of six, who are not only having the time of their lives, but saving countless lives in the process.
