That’s 1 Lucky Dog! This Rare Pup Must Have Been Born With The Luck Of The Irish.

A Canadian couple is downright astounded after their dog surprised them with a very rare pup!

Trevor and Audra Mosher of Nova Scotia were excited to welcome their American valley bulldog’s newest litter. An ultrasound had revealed 7 adorable puppies waiting to be born, so when the big day came, they were ready. But after the expected pups arrived, mama Freya went into labor again.

The last puppy came out inside a black sac. His siblings had all been born inside clear sacs, so the couple feared the worst… but then the puppy began to wriggle and make noise!

“We started to dry her off and noticed she was green and immediately again thought there was something wrong,” Trevor explained. “So we googled it, ‘my puppy is green, what’s wrong,’ and apparently it is very rare and it has happened a few times all over the world.”

The white furred puppy must have come into contact with green bile pigments in the womb, which stained her fur green. While rare, this sort of thing does happen from time to time. Remember that “lucky” puppy born in Italy during the pandemic? Still, this sort of thing doesn’t happen every day!

“I don’t know if I can find an exact rate of occurrence, but I would suspect it is <1:10000,”said Dr. Bronwyn Crane, a specialist in veterinary reproduction at the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island. “I have not come across a green puppy before.â€

Audra and Trevor were shocked but delighted by the rare puppy, and they eagerly shared pictures on Facebook. People soon began suggesting green-themed names for the puppy, even though the green pigment will fade in time. So far “Pistachio, Hulkette, Fiona, Lucky, and Wasabi seem to be the front runners. (We vote for Wasabi!)

What a special puppy! Trevor says they feel very lucky to have witnessed this pup’s birth. With St. Patrick’s Day just behind us, we’d say this is a sign of good things to come!
