Bus Driver Hears Screams From Backseat, Then Sees Rising Flames & Leaps Into Action.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

The old adage proved true earlier this week when school bus driver Teresa Stroble overheard two 9th graders yelling about smoke rising under their seats. Strobel leapt into action immediately, pulling over the bus and evacuating all 56 schoolkids seconds before the entire school bus burst into flames.

“She did exactly what she was trained to do,” Superintendent Scott Turner told CBS affiliate WSPA. “She was calm. She kept the students calm. She made sure they were safe. They were her first priority. She’s our hero today.”

An anonymous passerby reached out to CBS News with his own account of the harrowing tale.

“I was driving and saw a large black cloud ahead of me and as I got closer I saw the bus on fire in the car wash parking lot,” he told CBS News. “As I continued to drive by the heat was so intense I could feel it from inside my truck.”

In just under a minute, Stroble was able to save the lives of 56 kids and that of herself. It takes a lot of courage to remain so calm, cool and collected. Next time you’re facing a fire -whether burning flames or trials in life- remember Stroble and her level head. Everything will be ok!

Ms. Stroble risked her own life to make sure that 56 of her children made it home to their parents that day.
