Senior Dog Heartbroken When Favorite Toy Is Discontinued, Until Twitter Saves The Day!

You know how it goes with kids — they develop an odd fixation on a toy or something, and nothing else matters, regardless of all the alternatives. But as many dog owners know, children aren’t the only ones with this laser-like focus.

Kelli Brown lives in Bowling Green, Kentucky, with her two Chihuahuas, 12-year-old Jaxon and 9-year-old Punkin. The house is full of toys and Punkin isn’t very particular about which one he plays with. But Jaxon is another matter altogether.

Kelli adopted him from the local shelter in early December 2014, when he was 8 years old. He got a toy dubbed “Greenie” — a bright green, plush alligator — in his stocking that year, and maybe he just formed an emotional attachment to it because it was one of his first Christmas presents at his new home. Whatever the reason, he loves Greenie.

“We have tons of toys in the house,”Kelli explained, “but he only has eyes for his Greenie.â€

He typically goes through a couple Greenies a year, so Kelli would head to PetSmart to stock up on replacements. But disaster struck this January when she made her biannual Greenie trip — and discovered the toys had been discontinued.

Kelli Tweeted out her dilemma, hoping it would catch the eye of a PetSmart employee who could do some digging.

Kendyl Kercho, a 21-year-old college student and PetSmart employee in Lake Worth, Texas was the answer to her prayers. She dug around feverishly until she found an entire stash of Greenies tucked away in the clearance bins, then shipped them out to Kelli.

The icing on the cake? She didn’t even want to be reimbursed!

“I think what inspired me is my love for pets. I have a desire to do anything in my power to help animals anywhere and everywhere,”she explained later. “I figured if anyone could help, it was me, because I work at PetSmart where the toy comes from.â€

You can imagine the look of pure joy and excitement on Jaxon’s face when the package arrived in late February.

Thanks to Kendyl– and the many people who retweeted Kelli’s original plea for help– Jaxon was reunited with his beloved Greenie, and now he and Kelli are well stocked for the next four years!
