5-Yr-Old Has Cutest Celebration With Big Brother After Being Declared Cancer-Free.

Every parent’s worst nightmare is to hear a doctor diagnose their child with cancer. It’s a fear that every parent carries, and an unfortunate few have to live out in reality.

Slater Bushman was diagnosed with Stage 4 High-Risk Neuroblastoma when he was only four years old. Because of the severity of the diagnosis, he began intense treatments basically as soon as doctors could get him on the schedule – leaving his parents in a state of shock and mourning the childhood they wanted for their sweet boy.

Slater was taken to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, where he had to undergo surgeries, stem cell transplants, chemotherapy, bone marrow transplants, radiation, and immunotherapy. Since his treatments were so intense, his parents and older brother relocated from their home in Florida to Memphis to be by his side throughout the process.

Slater’s parents set up a Facebook page where they regularly updated family and friends on their son’s status and progress. His form of cancer is rare and occurs in “less than 800 cases a year” and success rates for “older” children like Slater is much lower than that of infants or toddlers.

Still, throughout all the treatments, Slater’s mom constantly posted photos of her sweet boy smiling throughout treatment. His joy and outlook was remarkable and contagious.

Then, after 425 days total in the hospital (409 of which were at St. Jude’s), Slater was declared cancer-free, was done with chemo, and got to go back home to Florida.

The staff at St. Jude’s had a huge celebration for Slater that was complete with a song, balloons, confetti, and gifts. His joy had definitely spread to everyone in the room celebrating him!

Slater’s recovery is nothing short of a miracle and there’s no doubt his happy-go-lucky spirit had a lot to do with his overcoming such a scary disease. He will certainly grow up to do great things in his life, but for now, everyone is just happy that he gets to enjoy his childhood cancer-free!

Watch the sweet celebration in the video below & be sure to share this heartwarming story with your friends!
