Auditions at X-factor UK usually end on a high note, but the judges and audience alike were in no way ready for the emotional experience they were about to have. Josh Daniel always found comfort in music, even in his darkest hour. Josh lost his best friend in the world back in 2013, and wanted to honor his memory in the most impactful way he could.
His beautiful rendition of “Jealous” by Labyrinth was sad, but also full of hope–that he would one day see his best friend again.
The judges were so stunned by his performance that half a minute passed before they could find the words to speak. Simon was especially moved, holding back tears the entire performance.
According to Hello Magazine, the segment was taped just after the death of Cowell’s mother Julie. Cowell was so moved that he was unable to speak before calling for a vote and walking off stage.
Cowell reportedly only took two days off from The X Factor to grieve the loss of his mother, which understandably made this moment all the more heart-wrenching. Watch Josh’s breathtaking performance below and remember that all is not lost, even in tragedy.
