If you were around in the late-90’s/early 2000’s, you probably heard the classic K-Ci & JoJo song “All My Life” once or twice (or a hundred times – it never gets old). The song is powerful, has amazing lyrics, and the harmonies throughout will leave shivers down your spine.
It doesn’t sound like the song can get any better, right? Think again. ‘The Voice’ contestant, Shawn Sounds, picked the legendary song as his blind audition selection, and he truly blew K-Ci & JoJo out of the water.
Shawn wasted no time once he stepped on stage. Within the first few measures of the song he had the audience, and judges, captivated with his impressive, soulful voice. Shockingly, the judges didn’t race to turn around their chairs right away – but it’s because all four of them were too busy singing along to the beloved song.
Shawn persisted, though, as the audience cheered with every note (and he hit a wide range of them). Throughout the song, it seemed hard to determine what was more impressive, his voice or his stage presence.
Shawn took the classic song with gorgeous harmonies and somehow made it more impressive as a solo performance. Before long, judges Blake Shelton, John Legend, and Adam Levine all turned around hoping they could get the chance to coach Shawn.
Then, Shawn wrapped up his number with an amazing crescendo – which had everyone screaming with support.
At that point, there was nothing left for Kelly Clarkson to do but turn her chair around – because she’d have been crazy not to!
Shawn didn’t miss a beat as the coaches bantered back and forth. He kept his stage presence going, even joining in to joke along with them. All four judges did their best to pitch themselves for an opportunity to coach the current middle school teacher (and future superstar), but in the end, John prevailed.
Shawn is bound to do amazing things throughout the season – we can hardly wait to watch!
