You know how the saying goes: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
And in most cases, we should all probably abide by that. I mean, we don’t need to innovate packing tape or find a way to cook pot roast that actually takes way longer than the recipe your mama gave you. Seven musicians, however, just proved there can be exceptions to this rule.
If you’re a music lover, then you’d probably argue that “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses is something that has never been broken and doesn’t need fixing, right? Most would tend to agree, but once you see this video, you’ll be questioning that conclusion.
The band, called Scary Pockets, dropped a re-imagined cover of the classic track a month ago with a little help from other musicians in their circle and it’s truly amazing.
This new composition is a funk-tinged take that I’m sure would impress Axl Rose himself. The arrangement includes a guitar, a sax, a trumpet, a bass, a keyboard, and some drums. Oh, and we can’t forget the sweet vocal stylings of singer Mario Jose.
Their take on “Sweet Child O’ Mine” is full of joy, exuberance, and a clear appreciation for the original. It’s really amazing to watch artists come together and turn something old into something brand new. Even though it’s a classic rock song being transformed by a genre from another era, it feels completely fresh.
