Female Rowers Take To Gondolas To Deliver Food To Elderly In Venice.

Since the novel coronavirus pandemic began, essentials have been hard to come by, especially for those who are more vulnerable.

That’s why a group of women in Venice, Italy, are hopping into gondolas and making home deliveries throughout the city. They want to help their neighbors get what they need!

They are part of a nonprofit called Row Venice. According to their website, the organization is comprised of around 15 female rowers who are dedicated to preserving traditional Venetian culture.

Nowadays, they’re also determined to take care of their elderly and immunocompromised neighbors, who can’t safely shop for themselves.

Since no tourists are stopping by, they’ve been able to put their regular rowing lessons on hold to transport baskets of food and goods down the city’s mostly empty canals – for free!

They’re also delivering supplies on behalf of local farmhouses that don’t have boats of their own.

“We offer an ecological transportation solution, lending a hand in this difficult time as we return to the origins of the city itself,” they said.

While these women love rowing, they’re even more passionate about making a difference!

“We were more than happy to volunteer our boats and crews to lend a hand,” they wrote on Instagram. “We hope this is a reminder to everyone of the alternatives Venice has for transportation of both goods (and people!), even after this crisis has passed.”

Not only are these athletes keeping their neighbors safe, but they’re also honoring their beloved city’s history! We are so thankful for all the heroes like them who are working hard to make this difficult time a little easier.
