Mia Bongardino knows firsthand the hardships that come with isolating from loved ones.
The Pennsylvania native just returned home from Florence, Italy, after her study abroad program was cut short in response to the coronavirus outbreak. As such, she spent 14 long days quarantining herself in her bedroom, as per the CDC’s recommendation. But her parents made sure she never had to eat alone.
Fortunately, Mia tested negative for COVID-19 after two weeks had passed. But before that, her dad, Steven, got creative when it came to family meals, bringing a table to the upstairs hallway outside of her room. Mia shared a compilation of his sweet solution on Twitter, warming the hearts of millions.
“I just got back from Italy & was required to self quarantine in my room for 14 days so my parents ate every meal with me from the hallway.” she wrote. “I don’t deserve them.”
What’s more, Steven took it upon himself to enhance Mia’s dining experience. On a stand between them, he set up artificial candles, flowers, and even a pine cone centerpiece!
Mia’s mom joined in later on in the video, smiling and waving at her daughter. While Mia says her parents have always been this thoughtful, she’s especially appreciative now considering the circumstances.
“My parents always go out of their way to do sweet things like this, but I think this has definitely brought us a bit closer considering the unexpected popularity of the video,” she told TIME.
Sweetest. Parents. Ever. We’re so glad Mia is finally out of isolation and back to enjoying her family’s company close up. Their constant presence during mealtimes must have helped immensely. While times are tough right now, we’re sure she’ll always treasure this beautiful show of love.
