Paralyzed Singer Gets Second Chance On ‘American Idol’.

The road to success is seldom a smooth, straight line; there are almost always a few bumps and curves along the way.

For “American Idol” contestant David Francisco, the road to stardom has been even tougher than most. Shortly after David moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his lifelong dream of being a musician, he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.

David clung to life afterward, waking up in the hospital shocked to discover that he couldn’t feel anything from the waist down.

“I thought everything’s over. Music’s over. Relationships are over. I cried every single day for months.”

Yet David persevered. Though his body was bruised and battered, his spirit remained strong and unbreakable. Amazingly, he found it in his heart to forgive the distracted driver who had caused the accident, opening the door to healing of both body and mind.

He found hope in the smallest moments, and began rigorous physical therapy that left him in agony afterwards. And then, one day, a miracle occurred.

“I’m in bed one night, and I see my foot move, just a little. Within the next two-three months, I had a lot of improvement. And that continues to today, really,” David explained. “I don’t take anything for granted.”

David’s progress gave him a new lease on life, and he began working harder than ever to get his life back. One unexpected joy that arose from David’s accident turned out to be rediscovering Christie, the love of his life. Christie was an old friend who reached out to let him know he was not alone.

Christie’s love helped David get back on his feet, literally and figuratively. The two were recently married, and Christie helps David work on his music.

“Life is so much fun with him,” Christie says simply.

David has certainly been through a lot, so when it came to getting his second chance at a music career on “American Idol,” he knew he had to go for it! With Christie by his side, he stepped onto the stage supported only by crutches. Even this small action is such an accomplishment and he has come so far since his accident!

David chose the song “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder, and his voice is perfectly suited to the sweet song.

As he sang, Christie wiped away tears from the side of the stage. Her love for David shone like a beacon in the small stage area, and one judge who definitely noticed was Katy Perry.

Katy was overcome by emotion, often looking to her fellow judge, Lionel Richie, in astonishment. By the time David reached the second verse, both Katy and Christie were openly weeping.

Lionel didn’t even wait for David to finish the song, cutting him off mid-verse. The judge got up and crossed the stage to give David a huge hug. “You are an inspiration to us all.”

Judge Luke Bryan couldn’t wait to get up and hand David his golden ticket to Hollywood. All the judges seemed moved beyond words at the strength standing before them.
