Everything was ready for little Paisley’s 3rd birthday party.
Her mother Cindy Davis had reserved a section of John Chestnut Park in East Lake, Florida, set up a table for food and presents, and rented a bounce house. The birthday girl was already jumping in the bounce house and excited for her big day, but there was one thing missing: guests.
After 30 minutes of waiting around and hoping their invited guests were simply running late, Cindy pulled out her phone and wrote a post on her local community’s Facebook page. “No one showed up to my 3-year-old’s birthday party today. If anyone wants to bring their kids, there is a bounce house. We will be here until 3,” she wrote.
She admits she didn’t think anyone would actually show up, but couldn’t bear to see her little girl sitting at an empty party table so it was worth a shot.
Within minutes, the replies started pouring in. Parents rallied their children, even swinging by a store to pick up a present on the way to the park. Children of all ages turned up to celebrate, but the real surprise happened when deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office showed up, gift bags in hand, ready for their turn in the bounce house.
Paisley was delighted to be the guest of honor. She even got to sit in the driver’s seat of a real police cruiser and make friends with lots of new people! Her mother was completely relieved that her simple post had turned the day around. “I really did not expect this at all,” she said. “I just thought you know okay someone’s here, let’s welcome them, offer them some food and cake and have a good time and then it didn’t stop. And it still hasn’t stopped.”
Paisley even received so many presents from her new friends that her mother plans to donate many of them to local charities as a way to give back to the community that had her back when she needed them.
What could have been a devastating memory turned into an occasion this family will not soon forget! It’s great to know that when things go wrong there are people nearby who will drop what they’re doing to show kindness. Our neighbors matter! Moments like these are what builds strong community connections that last a lifetime.
