If you are ever given the opportunity of to help an elderly person in need, don’t hesitate to lend a hand. Not only does it feel good to help out, but you could have a huge impact on someone’s life.
In case you aren’t already convinced, after reading the story of Agnes Maple, you’ll be ready to jump into action!
At the age of 90, Agnes found herself in a very difficult situation. She faced a hefty fine from the city– $2,500 a day– after neighbors complained to the city about the trash pile steadily growing in her backyard.
Unfortunately, Agnes had nothing to do with the junk. For years a relative had been using her backyard as a dumping ground for debris and trash. The relative was taking advantage of her age and inability to clean out the trash.
Agnes had nowhere else to turn, so she contacted Operation Blessing in hopes they would be able to help her.
According to their website, Operation Blessing “is a faith-based charity with a mission to demonstrate God’s love by alleviating human need and suffering in the United States and around the world.”
When the organization heard of Agnes’ situation, they knew they had to help immediately.
Along with a crew of volunteers from Regent University, the team arrived one day and got to work cleaning the property. All of the junk and debris was thrown into a huge dumpster truck. Little by little, Agnes’ backyard began to return.
On top of the cleaning, the team also worked to repair her roof which was falling apart. In the backyard, they added a new walkway for Agnes with flowers and new plants lining her path.
By the end of the day, the backyard was completely remodeled, but the team had one more blessing up their sleeve. Agnes had made a request for only one thing: an air conditioner for her bedroom.
So at the end of the day, they surprised Agnes with an air conditioner! The joy on her face was filled with such genuine gratitude when she opened her last surprise.
“I have been blessed and blessed and God has never left me,” Agnes told CBN in her interview.
